Irresistibly rustic

Summer is here in all it's glory and that's got me dreaming about our (future) cabin. Here are a  few more bits of inspiration I've collected here and there. Makes me want to go barefoot all summer, spend every waking minute outside, and sleep with the windows open every night. *sigh*

Faves

Happy Memorial Day weekend out there! I'm back from one of the most refreshing weeks I've had in a long time! What a blessing to get away to a beautiful place and spend time with my love! A few {other} things that made me smile this week:

I'm loving Thomas Paul's bright, punchy colors. I especially love their fabrics - so gorgeous! Thanks for passing this along, Grant!

For those of us who think there aren't enough holidays with trees brought indoors and decorated, a birthday tree seen on oh happy day. The designer spray painted party poppers gold! What a great idea!

I am not in the market for baby stuff at this point in my life, but when I do have little ones of my own, I plan to dress them in hats with ears as often as possible. This genius little shop on etsy features many and they are adorable.

Design sponge has a recurring column called 'Living In' (as in 'Living In: Alice and Wonderland', with photos of the film and items that capture the feel and style of the film). This week featured Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited! I LOVE Wes Anderson, his style, his movies, and the items featured in this installment of 'Living In'. They do such a great job of capturing the style of the films they feature!

And finally, a great (new-to-us) band out of California, The Union Line. We saw these guys live while we were in San Diego and really enjoyed their sound! Check them out - I especially love New Song #1 and #2! Mmmmm, sounds like southern California...
Enjoy the long weekend!!! xoxo

Things I love about Cali

We're back. We had a great time. The sun, the fresh air, the good food, the people, the beaches, the music - everything was really, really good. The only thing I really didn't love was leaving. (And finding parking.)

Faves

Hello out there! I'm back with some of my recent favorite things and I must say this week I am featuring some very fun little gems. I'm kind of giddy just looking at the pictures : )

First, there are some new blogs on the 'Hooked On' list at right: simple lovely, colour me happy, orange beautiful, and oh happy day. I'm having a blast getting to know these blogs and their authors, who are new to me. If you haven't yet, give them a read! They're bright, beautiful, and full of fun things!

Next, I'm not usually one to collect recipes, but I spotted this one for smores brownies on you are my fave and they look so scrumptious (and perfect for summertime!) I had to share. They're a little more work than your average brownies, but just look! (Yes, that is a graham cracker crust topped with brownies and golden toasted marshmallows. Heaven.)
And while we're on the subject of you are my fave (where does she find this amazing stuff?!?), in the post titled orange is my fave I found a picture of my own perfect party spot. I would like to have my next birthday party here, or even better, build an exact replica in my next back yard and celebrate all special occasions outdoors under a sunny canopy.
If you are a Francophile like me and you ever find yourself longing for anything related to France, I would refer you to hip Paris. Written by French and American girls, the blog is full of practical, insightful, and funny posts about the city of light. Here, another mouth-watering post dedicated to the delectable foods of Paris. This photo looks so good I can't stand it!
I spotted this gorgeous and practical post on the little things we do: a tutorial on how to take better photos. It's full of great tips and pretty examples. Like this:

And, perhaps my favorite find of the week, this iPhone cover featured on the little things we do. I love my iPhone so much. Any gadget so brilliant and hard working deserves this gorgeous cover.

That's all for now! I'm off to sunny California with my man! Have a beautiful weekend! xoxo

Ode to Domino (and built-ins)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I miss Domino. They really got it right - color, texture,  interest, and a less-is-more attitude toward styling. I was looking for a reference for a photo of a bookcase the other day and googled "Domino bookcase" and what appeared before my eyes but this gorgeous collection! I should have expected nothing less. Long live Domino!

Thankful

I've just had an amazing week. My family flew in, we ate, played, talked, laughed, and celebrated together my parents' 33rd anniversary and my graduation from graduate school. The whole weekend was such a blessing - I love you guys and I'm so thankful we had this time!

White light

Some great advice from colour me happy (a treasure of a blog completely dedicated to color - sigh): white is a decorating snob requiring good natural light, harmonized proportions, and a few objects artfully arranged. So true! Stick to these rules and the results are fantastic:
