space for our little man

I'll be 21 weeks along tomorrow (!) and this baby is starting to really make his presence known. My belly is growing (so much more quickly than with Michael!) and he is kicking and moving almost constantly, it seems. Sometimes, during the moments when I forget that I'm pregnant, Michael will come to me and ask to kiss the "baby in the tummy", which makes me melt, and gets me thinking that it won't be long at all until he's really here! Then, on Monday we had our 20 week ultrasound and we got to spend 15 blissful minutes looking in on our little guy, watching him kick and move, and falling in love with his precious little profile. Suddenly, it's time to start putting together a room for this boy!

We'll reuse the rocker and the crib (and the changing table) from Michael's room. (He'll be moving up to a real big-boy bed soon.) The walls in the nursery will be white, so I'm thinking of painting the crib a light grey to add a little contrast. I wanted to bring some yellow into the room and when I found this soft throw at Target I picked it right up. The solar system print isn't something I would have planned to put in a nursery, but it seems like just the kind of picture an infant will love to look at, and I love the colors, so the print has been ordered and is on its way. That isn't the name we've chosen (cute, though!), but I love the font and the colors in this name print, so I plan to order one once we've settled on a name. I'm still on the lookout for an attractive, affordable window treatment for the room, but I feel like we're on our way to having a special spot ready for this little boy.
I already can't wait to meet him.

As soon as we found out we were expecting I started pinning for the little one. I didn't realize how many sweet, girly things I had pinned until we found out we were having a boy. We're thrilled to add another little man to the family, but it's kind of sad to erase all the pretty pink from my pinboard.

The nursery

A few details are still unfinished, but for the most part the nursery is ready for our little man! It's a mix of styles and ideas, but I think it turned out just right. Inspiration came from the colors in these rooms...

...and the desire to include woodland animals in our nursery. (Even though it's been done to death lately, we couldn't resist "putting a bird on it". Haha!) Here's how it turned out:

Nursery prints

It's a snow day here in the northeast (yaay!) and I'm sitting by the fire doing a little shopping for the nursery (yaaaaay!) I've been on etsy for over an hour now and there is so much good stuff! Aren't these prints from letterpress adorable?

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!! I'm over the post-Christmas melancholy and ready to start the new year! Today I bought my 2011 planner - it's gold and crisp and new and full of possibilities. So exciting! There's a lot to do this year and here's what's at the top of my list:

The nursery! After a weekend of cleaning out and organizing, our former guest room is ready for the transition to nursery. This is layout option #1 including the crib, changing table, and chair we plan to order. (Everything is totally to scale - I am in planning overdrive.)

Here's option #2. I'm not sure which layout I like better - thoughts?

Love this nursery, and love the blog too.

We're two weeks from finding out if this little one is a boy or a girl (!) and I'm dying to start putting together the nursery. The prices are pretty steep, but the fabrics are gorgeous and unique - great for inspiration if we decide to make our own crib set.

More built-ins (and babies!)

I've got just a bit of baby fever here. A close friend had her little one last week, and there has been so much thanksgiving and excitement surrounding his birth - it's been really fun (for me - no sleep deprivation here)! It seems that everywhere I look right now there are more babies. For example, this photo from oh happy day. I thought it was just a great bookshelf. That clock, the urn, the books arranged by color...and then (surprise!) a tiny little baby snuggled up on the shelf! So adorable!

This little one is the newest member of the family for Gabrielle Blair, a designer and mother of six! Check out her blog design mom - it's super cute and well done.

Joanna Goddard, of a cup of jo, one of my favorite blogs EVER, just had a little one too. Have you seen Toby yet? He's too precious for words!

Lots of other friends are expecting or have recently had little ones too, so, it seems like a good time to post some of the nursery pictures I've been collecting. **No, we are not expecting, and I am not looking to put together a nursery right now.** But there are some really great ideas here and I thought I'd share the cuteness.
